English Language Learners

English Language Learners (ELLs), also known as ELs (English Learners), are students who are not native English speakers. They may have come from another country or their families may have come from another country so they have not been exposed to English at home. ELLs bring a different set of challenges for teachers since they are not fluent English speakers and come with a limited receptive and expressive oral language and a much smaller vocabulary than students who are native English speakers.
