Next Generation Science Standards

When the Common Core State Standards were developed, they were written for Mathematics and for English/Language Arts across the curriculum. Science as a separate content area was not addressed. There has been a national movement to develop specific content area standards in content knowledge, skills, and concepts related to teaching science. This has been a joint effort among the National Research Council, the National Science Teachers Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Achieve. They began by developing a Framework for K-12 Science Education. The next step was developing the Next Generation Science Standards for Grades K-12. These standards have gone through a rigorous development process and have had input from all stakeholders involved in science education. Click on the links below for resources related to the NGSS:
